The 100th Finance Carnival
I have just joined my first carnival. In the blogging world a carnival is a collection of related blogs joining together to publish each others articles with one blogger being the carnival host for the occasion and linking to them all. The carnival I joined is the Financial Bloggers Carnival and it is their centenary. 100 carnivals. It’s quite a milestone and I am delighted to be a member of it.
You can find all the articles listed and discussed over at the host’s blog MyOpenWallet
It must have taken a great deal of effort to assemble all these posts in the one place and to comment on them all too. Well done to Madam X who calls herself that to maintain anonymity because she displays information about her financial situation Hence the wish for anonymity. It’s an interesting blog but my favourite has to be this quite old one.. Expensive Things I Will Not Buy
There a re a lot of very good posts among the 100 listed. A few that I particularly liked are as follows:-
Shannon at savetoquit makes a good case for using cash rather than credit and debit cards. Her blog is quite new but will be interesting to follow. She and her husband have saved up a years income so that they can live in Hawaii and start their own business. I wish them both luck with their venture and look forward to reading about it.
I enjoyed reading am-i-the-only-one-that-realizes-that-having-my-groceries-delivered-makes-financial-sense as it does indeed make a lot of sense. We all get tempted to buy things we otherwise wouldn’t and there are other savings explained here too. It fits well with an article I wrote myself about shopping locally. You can find my article here… spendnsave
The blog entry at fearlessmoney made me smile. I can relate to the idea of doing a job yourself just because you can. It’s a man thing, don’t you know? We just take any task as a challenge and our caveman inner nature responds to that challenge by convincing us that not doing it would be a weakness. Not so in this day and age and the author has other good financial reasons for getting help.
I frequently write about resisting the temptation of buying things. Over at frugalzeitgeist there is an examination of why the author wanted a pair of shoes but her ultimate conclusion was that she didn’t. It shows how stopping and thinking before buying can save you a lot of money.
If you ever get irritated by customer services people trying to “Up sell†you then you will enjoy this article onemilliontomyname I enjoyed reading a lot more of this blog too.
Finally an excellent article about the housing market in the US. Most of which applies elsewhere too. searchlightcrusade
Enjoy the carnival. There is a lot of good stuff to be found there.
