One time I had made the mistake of not telling them my social security number (because I was in a public cafe). The response was to freeze my entire account and require me to show up in-person at a Bank of America branch with two forms of ID. This is not very nice when you are traveling.

I'm really annoyed with a particular credit card company. I have an account with Lloyds which has a hefty balance on it - a balance where I'm paying > £100/month in interest alone. I got fed up of paying a tiny amount a month off the actual balance and called them to ask for a reduction in my interest rate. Even halving the rate would leave them making a *huge* amount of money from me monthly.

Instead, I get nothing but pig-headedness from the customer service advisor I spoke to and an insistence that this wasn't possible.

So, within 24hrs of this discussion I had the money in my account from a loan, for the full balance at half the interest rate which is flexible for overpayments and have cleared the card.

Their loss. You'd think they'd care about losing ~2k a year in interest... seems to be the attitude that the card companies have in general.
