The winter fuel payment for anyone over 60 is normally paid automatically but there are some who may need to make a claim.

If you are over 60 but not in receipt of state benefits or pension and have not previously applied you may need to make an application and you can find out if you qualify for the winter fuel allowance here <click here>.

Explanation Of High Mortgage Charges

There has been a lot of discussion about the fact that mortgage rates are significantly higher than the official bank rate. The British Bankers Association has released a document in which they attempt to explain why rates are as high as they are.

They obviously have their own points to make but it is an interesting explanation of how the mortgage market works and you can read it here… <click here>

Cost Of Booking Seats At British Airways

British Airways has always maintained an image of providing service to their customers. You may pay a bit more than the cheaper airlines but you get a better level of service in return. Some people prefer good service and helpful companies and they are prepared to accept the costs involved. Most of us are fed up with the so called low cost airlines offering an apparently cheap fare and then having a multitude of additional charges, some of which are compulsory.

So it is disappointing to see that BA have sunk to the level of cheap seat airlines and have decided to charge passengers an extra £10 for European flights and up to £50 or more for long haul business class if you want to pick your seat before flying.

BA make a point of mentioning some of the additonal charges the low cost airlines make here… compare costs.. and they make some valid points about additional charges but as from the 7th October when the seat selection charges come in it looks like they are joining the ranks of the ‘sell it cheap and then add on all the extra costs brigade’.

It would seem to be perfectly reasonable to select your preferred seat when booking and if you are travelling with your family or friends you would think that any airline would want to help you enjoy your trip sitting with your family and there seems to be no logical reason why that should not be part of the service.

BA seem to have decided that it is another way of raising money by charging passengers an extra fee and it seems to show once again that the paying passenger is considered something of a nuisance if they actually want service.
